While the real estate market has slowed since the onslaught of COVID-19, houses are still selling, and some for big bucks. The most expensive sale in the Hamilton area in April was in Ancaster, for $2.85 million. Two homes in Burlington were the next highest home purchases that month, according to data from sales made by members of the Realtors Association of Hamilton-Burlington.
The organization says the top three sales in its coverage area last month ranged from $1.9 million to $2.85 million, with one located in Ancaster and two in Burlington. RAHB also says the top three sales in Hamilton proper were in Ancaster, Hamilton Mountain and Hamilton East, and ranged from $1.2 million to $2.85 million.
On the low end, the area’s most affordable homes sold in April ranged between $35,000 and just below $180,000, with two in Flamborough and one in Ancaster. RAHB president Kathy Della-Nebbia says all three were “likely modular homes.”
She adds that, for now, prices are holding steady, even as fewer listings and sales take place.
Many agents, such as Greg de Denus at ReMax Real Estate Centre, are limiting showings to “people who are in a real bind” and are very likely to purchase, he recently told The Spectator. He says most of his work is done remotely, including signatures, and that he only shows homes where no one is living.
“You unlock the lockbox with gloves and a mask, wipe down and go into your car. Then the clients go inside, and you FaceTime with them,” he explained.
