Dying, it turns out, can be expensive. Especially if you live in the three Texas communities that top a new set of lists from Finder.com.
At $10,285, Sugar Land is the nation’s most expensive city for a traditional burial service, according to Finder, a consumer financial guidance site. It’s also the second-most expensive city for cremation, which the list pegs at $6,440, while the national average is $4,828.
Missouri City took the top spot for cremation; at $6,733, the city is the most expensive on the list.

To make the list, Finder said it analyzed average funeral and cremation costs for 499 cities across 50 states against funeral trends from the National Funeral Directors Association and death statistics from the National Center for Health Statistics.
Among the list of most expensive cities to be buried in, Frisco took slot No. 2, at $9,592. Allen is third on both of Finder’s lists, with the traditional funeral there costing $9,430 and cremation services running $6,210.
These few communities aside, Texas does not boast the most expensive statewide average on Finder’s funeral list. The lead spot goes to Minnesota, where the average funeral — burial or cremation — costs $7,526. Texas is No. 15 on the nationwide list, at $6,844 for a funeral.
Americans spend some $7.7 billion each year on funerals, and $7.9 billion a year on cremation services, Finder found.
