Get Away From Mainland America in Style in Guam's Most Expensive Home - Realtor.com News

If you're in search of some space between you and the continental United States—but don't want to sever all ties with America, the island of Guam might be the answer.

Guam, located in Micronesia in the western Pacific Ocean, is a territory of the United States. Just to give a sense of its distance from the mainland, Guam is 6,098 miles from Los Angeles.

About 163,000 people live on the 210-square-mile island, and it takes about 45 minutes to get from one end of the island to the other. The median list price of a home in the island's largest city, Dededo, is currently $399,000.

But if you have more money to spend on your getaway plan, we've pinpointed the island's priciest place. A four-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom home on Tun Pedro Ada Street in Tamuning, on the market for $2.3 million, is the most expensive home on Guam.

Tamuning, a tourist and economic hub, is close to the middle on the western side of the island.

“It's in a very nice community. There's a collection of very nice homes around this home, and it's in a great location,” says the co-listing agent, Anthony Godwin, who adds that homes are not often for sale in this exclusive neighborhood.

The nearly 5,000-square-foot home was built in 1982, and its current owners made quite a few updates.

“When you first walk into this house, you can tell this is something different, this is something unique. It’s almost like a movie set. That’s how I would describe it,” Godwin says.

The residence spans two levels, decorated in light colors, which lend the home a tranquil vibe. High-end details include Italian marble flooring, a statement staircase, and a Murano chandelier in the entryway.

“It’s like Tuscany on an island,” explains the co-listing agent, Norma Del Carmen. “The owner is Italian, and he tried to bring that atmosphere. I just feel like I’m in a Tuscan villa.”

The master bedroom is large, with custom Japanese Sokee cabinets and plenty of natural light.

“The master bathroom is palatial. It has a huge walk-in closet, double vanity sinks, and a jetted tub,” Godwin explains.

It also has a dressing area and an abundance of mirrors.

“When you're in the dining room, you're looking out over the pool and landscaped yard,” Godwin says.

“I think the perfect buyer would be someone who does a lot of entertaining. Or someone who wants to live a quiet lifestyle and not go anywhere—because you can get it all in this house.”

The pool and spa are new additions to the home. There's room for sunning or a covered spot in the shade.

The U.S. military maintains a large presence on Guam, and its facilities cover about one-third of the area of the island. American brands, like IHOP, Papa John’s Pizza, and Home Depot, are available for shopping and dining.

“People come here, and they have a taste of America on a little island, but they don’t have all the chaos and drama that’s going on back in the States,” Del Carmen explains.

In non-COVID times, the island is also a popular destination for Japanese tourists.

Once people live on Guam, they don’t want to leave, Del Carmen says.

“It’s a very diverse melting pot, and the people here are just genuinely nice,” he adds. “That’s what draws people here. People feel a sense of peacefulness here on the island.”
