This week’s SB Nation NBA Reacts survey asked a question about NBA Top Shot, a crypto-collectible that allows fans to own sports highlights of players which can be bought and sold in a digital marketplace. As of Feb. 28, NBA Top Shot has sold about $230 million worth of transactions since it was created according to Jabari Young of CNBC.
How do these highlights get value when you can watch them online? It’s because these highlights are created by Dapper Labs, which uses blockchain technology. So for example, there are only going to be a certain amount of Russell Westbrook game winning shots available. That’s how the value of some highlights can reach thousands of dollars.
Highlights are only available in limited quantities which are why they can sell for much more on the open market. Highlights are generally available in packs which are as low as $9.00 but they can quickly gain value from there.
What are the most valuable highlights featuring the Washington Wizards on the open market? Check these out. Please note that prices can vary quickly so they are accurate as of about 12:50 p.m. ET on Mar. 1.
This is more than a starter pack, but it’s still for just $16. That said, three people spent over $2,500 each for it last week.
Wait that's the cheapest one featuring Beal.

It’s available for $91. That said, someone still spent $3,500 for it and two more spent over $1,000 each. I bet they are shaking their heads.
The most expensive Wizards highlight is a Rui Hachimura dunk on Nov. 8, 2019 vs. the Cavaliers
This starts at nearly $60,000! In three sales, the highest was $23,890, so maybe people are asking for too much here.
The most expensive Wizards highlight that sold: A Beal dunk on Feb. 24, 2020 vs. the Bucks went for $25,111!
The highest SALE right now is Bradley Beal's dunk on 2/24/20 vs. the Bucks.
Someone spent $25,111 for this! Now, it's going at a discount of just ... $13,333? pic.twitter.com/hh9craO3SE

I bet wiredgrl84, who bought it for $25,111 is either Brad’s biggest fan, sweating over an emotional purchase, or .... maybe she’s happy to get Serial No. 1 on this highlight. Either way, four people spent at least $10,999 on the highlight based on recent sales history.
Should you invest into NBA Top Shot?
I cannot give you investment advice. If you do, the Top Shot market still seems very volatile because fans are buying many highlights out of emotion. Though the market will likely stabilize at some point, it’s clear that digital collectibles are becoming the norm in the tech-savvy world we live in.
