Crisp shortbread cookies, smooth and creamy caramel all covered in sweet milk chocolate - yes, I’m speaking of one of my all time favorite candy bars, Twix. Oh, but wait! Let’s use a phrase from the great chef Emril Lagossi and kick it up a notch!

I have added one of my favorite candy bars to an already amazingly flavorful and moist French vanilla cake. It created quite a stir among the people who I chose to be my guinea pigs and my business, Da Munchie Plug LLC, has gotten a few orders from others since then.

I first made a Snickers candy bar cake for my children when they were younger, and it has been a hit at my house every since. This is why I always encourage you to be adventurous. You never know what masterpiece you might create.

After having this shortbread cookie, caramel and chocolate baked inside a fluffy and moist French vanilla cake topped with some vanilla or butter pecan ice cream, you will not want to have any other dessert for a while. I prefer to serve it warm but that’s not necessary.

I cover the cooled cake with my homemade caramel and homemade chocolate glaze. I’m not one for sweets but when a sweet tooth hits me, this cake really hits all the spots.

You might think it’s weird or out of the ordinary, but I say don’t knock it until you try it. I’m sure many others have their own versions out there, but this is what I have found to be a hit after years of making the other candy bar cake.

You can definitely experiment with any of your favorite candy bars. I’ve even tried the Andies chocolate mint candy bar. It also was a hit! Pairing the right candy bar with the right flavor of cake makes a difference. I was once asked to make a lemon cake with caramel glaze, so I guess just follow your own taste buds.

I like to make food that is creative and tasty because, well, why not?

Enjoy making this Twix cake, or whatever your favorite candy bar is, and enjoy eating it with your family and friends. Plus, with school back in session, this would be a nice dessert to share as you hear all about your child’s day at school.

Now let’s roll up our sleeves, wash our hands and get started creating our very own version of Twix Candy Bar Cake.

For the cake:

1 cup butter

1 1/2 cup sugar

1 teaspoon of vanilla

3 large eggs at room temperature

1/2 cup milk

2 cups all-purpose flour

Pinch of salt

1/2 cup chopped up Twix or just cut the fun size in half

In a large bowl whip butter and sugar until well blended. Add vanilla.

Combine dry ingredients together (flour and salt). Then rotate adding in the dry and wet (eggs and milk) ingredients. Mix until batter is thick and smooth.

Coat your cake pan with butter and then dust with flour. I used a Bundt cake pan. Spread cake batter in a prepared cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for for 25 to 40 minutes, depending on your pan. For a 6-inch pan it will be about 25 minutes. With a 9-inch pan, it will take about 40 minutes.

Let cake cool.

Chocolate Glaze:

1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/4 milk chocolate chips

1/4 cup heavy whipping cream

Microwave the heavy whipping cream in a microwave safe dish for 45 seconds or until hot. Add the chocolate chips and stir until smooth. Let cool 5 minutes.

Caramel:

1/2 cup of butter

1 cup of sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring

1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk

In a medium sauce pan heat up heat the sugar and butter stirring until well mixed. The caramel will look as if it is getting darker around the edges so stir it to be sure you do not burn your caramel.

Once you have the desired color and consistency that you want, turn the stove off keeping the pot on the stove add the vanilla and the sweetened condensed milk. Let cool for 5 minutes.

To assemble the cake: Place cooled cake on a serving platter and pour some of the chocolate and caramel glazes over the cake. Place Twix candy bars on top of the cake and finish pouring glazes over the cake. Serve.
