Fewer U.K. Tenants Able to Negotiate Rent Reductions Only 1.1% of U.K. tenants were able to negotiate a rent reduction in December, the smallest number since January 2015, when tracking began. That figure was 1.6% in November. According to a December report from ARLA Propertymark, 32% of real estate agents saw rent increases, a marked rise from December 2018, when the figure was 18%, and December 2017, when it was 16%. U.S. Mortgage Applications Spike U.S. mortgage applications saw an uptick in mid-January, rising 7.2% over the week prior. An index measuring refinancing rose by 8% for the week ending Jan. 24 over the week before and by 146% over the same week a year prior, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. A purchase index that was seasonally adjusted grew 5% week-over-week. World Property Journal

Homes Prices in 20 U.S. Cities Rise Twenty American cities saw their strongest price growth in nine months in November. There was a 2.6% year-over-year increase in the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller property value index, which exceeded the 2.4% growth that a Bloomberg survey of economists called for.
