These Are The Most Expensive Military Vehicles Civilians Can Buy - HotCars

For the majority of us, the only chance we'll get to be behind the wheel of a multi-million dollar jet, tank, or A.P.C., is whilst in the military. These tools for warfare and defense aren't cheap to make, as they're equipped with the best-of-the-best in weaponry and armor.

Yet, as we've come to realize, nothing is out of reach for the richest individuals in our society. As such, they are the only ones who don't need military service/government positions in order to attain these awe-inspiring machines. Though most of us couldn't dream of such expenditures, it's fun to window shop for civilian-accessible combat units.

So, to showcase these monsters, we've compiled a list of some of the most expensive military vehicles that are (somehow) available for purchase to deep-pocketed civilians...

15 Oshkosh L-ATV (~$450,000)

Via: Top Speed

To start, we've got a modern take on the time-tested 'Humvees.' Its official name is the Oshkosh L-ATV, but it's casually referred to as just the 'New Humvee.' rather than just replace the classic Hummers, the L-ATV smashes it! It's more maneuverable, stronger, and (most importantly) better-looking!

14 Paramount Marauder ($480,000)

Via: Paramount Group

Long time Top Gear enthusiasts may experience some 'deja vu' with this one. In series 17 of the show, host Richard Hammond took this half-a-million-dollar personnel carrier to the streets of South Africa. After withstanding hundreds of rounds of small arms fire, driving over trucks, and crashing through walls, the Marauder remained unscathed. Could this be the ideal apocalypse car?

13 Whiskey Class PI12 Submarine (~$500,000)

Via: Wikipedia

If you'd of told us that it was possible for a civilian to purchase a retired Whiskey Class submarine, then we'd be hard-pressed to believe you. Nevertheless, it's the truth, as evidenced by this half-a-million-dollar PI12 military submarine! We're not sure how practical something like this would be in the open water, but it would certainly be a cool conversation piece.

12 Knight XV ($800,000)

Via: Wikipedia

Similar to the Marauder above, the Knight XV is focused on the same categories: armored protection, durability, and power. Yet, there's one thing the Knight XV has that the Marauder doesn't; luxury. Because of this, you'll see a few celebrities who've made the leap into armored vehicles, particularly Dwight Howard.

11 Inkas Huron APC ($500,000 to $1 Million+)

Via: Inkas Armored

The Inkas Huron is the epitome of a modern A.P.C. (Armored Personnel Carrier). Just looking at this thing will make your jaw drop by its sheer length. Not only that, but every inch of this thing is bulletproof: the windows, doors, walls, tires, etc. Though they're primarily used by police and special forces, Inkas offers customers a chance to customize, then order their own personal one!

10 Force Protection ‘Ocelot’ (~$1.5 Million)

What we have here is another take on what the Marauder, Inkas, Knight, and Oshkosh have produced: an armored personnel carrier. The difference between the Ocelot and the rest, however, is its price and place of birth (Britain). What you'll find in the others, you'll find here: bulletproof body and windows, a lot of torque, room for a small army, etc. It may not be the most comfortable of the lot, but it'll certainly get the job done.

9 110-ft. Crew-Pilot Boat ($2 to $3 Million)

Via: Military.com

Even off the land, the police of the world are no joke. Take this Crew-Pilot boat for instance. Sitting at 110-ft long, this ex-law enforcement cruiser is as large as a six-bedroom home, filled to the brim with unique options like autopilot, a top speed of 20+ knots, armor plating, and much more!

8 Russian T-90 ($2 Million)

Via: The National Interest

Ever wanted to jump a tank, whilst simultaneously firing at a target and hitting it (mid-air)? Welp, somebody in Russia thought about that, which is why their T-90 tank can do exactly that. Sure, it can stop uranium rounds, withstand explosions, level cities, and go fast, but that awesome jump shot has us captivated!

For over $2 million, we'd hope that it would be able to do some cool stuff. That is, assuming what it does normally isn't neat enough...

7 German Panzer IV ($2.4 Million)

Via: Wikipedia

Although the Germans are viewed as the great evil of World War II, there's no discounting the technological advancements that came out of their conquest. Perhaps the most devastating of the lot is the renowned Panzer IV tank. The Panzers were the top of their class; demolishing thousands of enemies throughout the war.

Miraculously, there are still Panzers out there today, and you can get them, too! However, don't expect any deals for a $2 million-plus antique.

6 IMI Combat Guard ($3 Million)

Via: Twitter

With the conflict between Israel and Palestine (along with other competing nations), both countries are continuing to pump out new fighting machines and combat vehicles. In Israel's case, they've recently (2014) built a specialized 4x4 off-roader with armor plating, maneuverability, and speed: the IMI Combat Guard. Think of a Polaris RZR, just equipped with an extra $2 million+ in add-ons.

5 The Russian ‘Batmobile’ (~$6 Million)

Via: Pinterest

Little is known about this vehicle. What we do know, though, is that it's a transport vehicle specifically for the Russian Spetsnaz; titled the ZiL Karatel, but nicknamed the 'Russian Batmobile' by Russian President, Vladimir Putin, during a visit. Hey, if it's good enough for the leader of a world superpower, then it's good enough for us!

4 M1A2 Abrams Battle Tank (~$6 Million+)

Via: Wikipedia

Here, we have what is (arguably) the strongest on-land military vehicle ever created, the M1A2 Abrams battle tank. Designed by General Dynamics Land Systems, both the M1A1 and M1A2 Abrams tanks have topped their respective fields. Today, they're some of the most popular tanks in the U.S. Army, as well as several other nations. You can get yourself one, yet, it won't have any lethal capabilities (besides running things over).

3 F-16A/B Fighting Falcon ($8.5 Million)

Via: US National Archives

Since technology has improved, older models (as a result) are resigned to the isles of history; rarely to be flown again. Sometimes, though, the militaries of the world strip down their high-tech jets and resell them to the public, either for fundraising or other matters. So, what was once reserved for the likes of trained Air Force pilots can now be yours! Well, with one easy payment of $8.5 million...

2 Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (~$22 Million/Per)

Via: Wikipedia

Land, sea, ice, snow, or sand; it makes no difference to this monolith: the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (E.F.V.). The whole idea behind the E.F.V. is for U.S. Marine deployment and transport. As you can see, it's a huge block of metal that's able to transition from land to sea.

At the end of the day, though, the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle was deemed to be too costly to mass-produce/use. It's a loss for the U.S. government, but a win for rich military aficionados.

1 Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II ($79 Million)

Via: Defense Blog

Last, we have the pinnacle of human innovation and technological development: Lockheed Martin's F-35 Lightning II fighter jet. Compared to the older F-22 Raptor, the F-35 is much cheaper to produce. However, that doesn't change the fact that these planes exceed $50 million per piece, so you'll need to be Bill Gates to get one.

Aside from that, they're incredibly difficult to fly; taking years of training and pre-flight checks. Though, if you've got nearly $80 million to blow, then another couple dozen probably won't hurt too badly.
