The life of a petrolhead is a rather interesting one. Yes, we love cars and bikes. But we lust over anything fast, sexy, and expensive. Sadly, most of us will never get the chance to own any of these machines of desire, because they’re enough to squander our entire life savings.
So why desire them in the first place? Because they are the fodder we feed on. And if you are a biker, this is the kind of fodder you should be consuming.
These 8 bikes are not necessarily the fastest. Rather, they are the most expensive money can buy. They represent not just a machine, but also art and status, the foundation upon which most biker communities have been founded. That’s why they belong on our 2021 wish list.
8 Ducati Desmosedici D16RR NCR M16 – $235,000
The Ducati Desmosedici is not an entirely foreign name. This menacing motorbike was produced as a limited edition road-legal bike by Ducati between 2007 and 2008 as the Ducati Desmosedici RR. And it wasn’t going for $235,000. Rather, the regular Desmosedici was going for a still expensive $72,000.
So, what’s with the inflated price tag? Upgrades. That’s the biggest highlight of the Desmosedici D16RR NCR M16. This bike is built out of avionic, titanium, and aluminum. These materials make the bike extremely light and strong, which takes its already impressive performance as a regular, a notch higher. It still uses the desmodromic 989cc Ducati V4 that takes the regular bike to a top speed of 303km/h.
7 Ducati Testa Stretta NCR Macchia Nera – $225,000
The Ducati Testa Stretta NCR Macchia Nera is not the fastest Ducati you can get on the road, neither does it have the most powerful engine ever fixed on a motorbike. Rather, this aggressive-looking machine is one of the lightest, sexiest, and fun motorcycles you can get from the manufacturer.
The performance is still amazing. The NCR Macchia Nera carries a 185hp power unit that responds beautifully under the weight of this 135kg monster. The aggressive yet unique design is the work of legendary designer Aldo Drudi, who created a bike not only fun to ride but also exceptionally beautiful to keep in your collection.
6 Suzuki AEM Carbon Fiber Hayabusa – $200,000
The Hayabusa is not a foreign name among bikers. Released in 1999, the 1300cc Suzuki Hayabusa was crowned the world’s fastest bike after it hit a top speed of over 188mph in 2008. This was after this aggressive machine got a facelift, a major part of which involved fixing carbon fiber in every area possible.
The AEM Carbon Fiber Hayabusa had carbon fiber from top to bottom. Even the rider’s helmet was made from full carbon fiber. Apart from murdering production motorbike lap times, the AEM Carbon Fiber Hayabusa was built to murder bank accounts. One of these goes for $200,000.
5 Honda RC213 V-S – $185,000
This was the most anticipated “MotoGP street machine” from Honda in 2015. The RC213 was poised to be the most aggressive bike ever produced by Honda, for the streets. And true to their word, the company didn’t disappoint.
That’s not to mean the performance figures were unheard of. As far as weight goes, the 175kg dry weight of the RC213 V-S was not the lightest we’ve ever heard of. That crown was for the Ducati 1199 Superleggera that weighed 155kg dry. The power unit was different too. In America, the most you could get was 101hp out of that 999cc V4, with the sports kit not being available. However, in Europe, the sports kit amped that figure to a ridiculous 210hp at 13,000RPM. All that, for a price tag of $185,000.
4 MTT Turbine Streetfighter – $175,000
Now, this bike is not just expensive. It’s also very powerful. Technically speaking, it’s powerful enough to match a flat-six in a Porsche Turbo. That’s because the power unit underneath is a Rolls Royce-Allison turbine engine, something unheard of in the biking world.
Aesthetically, the MTT Turbine Streetfighter looks gorgeous. The piece de resistance is the massive exhaust that opens to the side and a rather closed paneling. As far as performance goes, the Turbine Streetfighter not only outperforms most sports car engines with 420hp to boot but also outruns aggressive Italian supercars by clocking a top speed of over 400km/h.
3 Icon Sheene – $172,000
Unlike most other motorbikes in this list that were built for either performance or prestige, this particular two-wheeler was built as a tribute to world champion motorcycle racer, Barry Sheene. That means it’s a special bike, with only 52 having been built in its production span.
But that doesn’t mean that the two other ingredients that warrant a bike’s exclusive price are missing. The Icon Sheene takes the spot as one of the most powerful bikes ever produced. Its 1400cc Suzuki engine is capable of producing 250hp.
2 NCR Leggera 1200 Titanium Special – $148,000
The thing with the NCR Leggera 1200 Titanium special is that it’s not the sexiest bike to look at. Some fans might argue that it looks more like a dirt bike than something you should pay $148,000 for, aesthetically. But then, get on it, and you’ll understand why $148,000 is the best deal for this bike.
The Leggera 1200 Titanium Special is all about saving weight. Its body is made out of titanium, it features Ohlins suspension, carbon fiber BST wheels, and Brembo brakes. All these make this limited edition ride one of the most fun and agile bikes to ride today.
1 NCR MH TT (Mike Hailwood) – $130,000
Yet again, NCR has a pocket-draining motorcycle that is not only targeted at saving weight but also paying homage to Mike Hailwood, the winner of the 1978 Isle of Man TT. That should give you a few styling hints about this motorcycle.
Since the Brit in question was a racer back in the ‘70s, the NCR MH TT took its styling from the racing bikes of the ‘60s. The only difference is, with this bike, the frame is made out of titanium, which makes the bike lighter and more agile.
