Vegetables more expensive in Gurugram due to transport cost hikes - hortidaily.com

The prices of almost all vegetables, including ladies finger, peas and beans, as well as fruits like bananas and oranges have driven up prices drastically in Gurugram, over the past few days. The high temperatures, transportation cost hikes, shortages of labor and fewer arrivals to the wholesale market due to Covid restrictions have led to this increase, say vendors. The prices of vegetables are likely to come down only next month, they expect.

Traders at various mandis in Gurugram say there is a dip in demand for expensive vegetables over the past few days. Abhishek Daheriya, a vegetable vendor near the Sector-4 mandi, told timesofindia.indiatimes.com:  “The prices of only a few vegetables have gone up. People are buying costly vegetables less and more of the cheaper ones.”

The city’s vegetables come from Delhi’s Azadpur and Ghazipur mandis and Khandsa mandi in Gurugram. Restaurant owners, who are looking to reopen their businesses, are the most affected.
