Americans spend $140 per year on wine at home, according to Statista, with plenty of us spending way more. And as summer heats up, and more Americans begin gathering again, there’s no doubt plenty of us will be bringing a bottle to a friend’s house. So we asked sommeliers to recommend their favorite bottles of white wine under $15 that taste much more expensive than their sticker price. (If you can get free shipping, we’ve noted how to do it.)
If you like bold and dry whites: Mastroberardino Greco Campania Mastro 2018, $12.99 on Vivino (free shipping for orders of 6 bottles or more, or over $150)
“My favorite region in the wine world when it comes to white is Campania in Southern Italy. This area has incredible volcanic soils and coastal influence to produce beautiful, aromatic whites,” says Jon McDaniel, director of winery development at VinConnect and executive secretary of the United Sommeliers Foundation. “This Greco is an incredible value that drinks twice the price with striking minerality, tropical fruit and hints of ginger,” says McDaniel.

Wine consultant Cassandra Rosen with FK Interactive recommends this summer steal from the Stellenbosch region in South Africa. “It’s off-dry, crisp acidity is balanced by bright, tropical fruit flavors and aromas like guava and lime blossom, as well as ripe peach,” says Rosen. The wine is harvested from multiple vineyard locations utilizing both bushvines and trellised vines and is aged on the lees in stainless steel for 120 days, adding a creamy mouthfeel. “It’s well balanced, refreshing and pairs well with grilled fish or lobster rolls,” says Rosen.

If you like bubbles: Rotari Brut N.V., $14.99 at Vivino (free shipping for orders of 6 bottles or more, or over $150)
Laura Maniec, founder of Corkbuzz, says this is a great sparkling wine alternative to champagne. “It hails from the Dolomite mountains of Italy and it’s made using the same method as champagne with secondary fermentation happening in the bottle,” says Maniec. This bottle has green and yellow apple, custard and toasty aromas, making it “a great summer showstopper and popper,” says Maniec.

This wine is sourced from dry-farmed, old bush vines,” he adds, noting that is has “the classic Chenin notes of honeysuckle, stone fruit and wooliness.” He also likes that it offers “great texture, a little more body and ripeness than its French counterparts, but it’s still lively and balanced.”
