‘You can’t have your cake and eat it, too’ is a proverb that illustrates a well-known piece of wisdom, that you must make a choice; you cannot have it both ways.
Cake Week was launched by Nudge PR – the team behind the eagerly-awaited annual Chocolate Week – with the mission to encourage UK consumers to support local businesses and brands.
Despite the pandemic, last year saw Cake Week get off to a great start. Events that kept consumers coming back for more included the country’s Willy Wonder – master chocolatier Paul A Young – create a special Victoria Sponge Truffle, Rosalind Miller Cakes giving a Masterclass giveaway, the Duchess of Sussex’s favoured Luminary Bakery sharing recipes from its new book, Rising Hope, and Instagram posts from GBBO winners such as Edd Kimber.
This year will be no less exciting, with the focus on Sharing and everyone getting involved – from artisanal bakers to larger bakery manufacturers, equipment and ingredient companies – launching new flavours, limited edition cakes and offering virtual tastings and special deals. The event will also host a community tea party and launch a collaborative e-book.
Participants already signed up for 2021 include some of the biggest names in the baking world, including Nielsen-Massey, Allinson’s Flour, Billington’s Sugar, Silver Spoon, Bonne Maman, Konditor, Hotel Chocolat, Luminary Bakery, Buns From Home and Jack & Beyond.
