If you’re old enough, you remember driving your friend’s car and struggling with the different clutch. If you’re younger, it might be adjusting to how the brake pedal grabs. In this new luxury SUV the new adjustment is technology.
In the beginning, Hyundai created a luxury brand called Genesis, Genesis created an SUV called the GV80, and we created an excuse to borrow the GV80 and take it from Logan to Manti. It took some getting used to. (The GV 80 tech; we’ve been to Manti).
Switching to Calm Sea Waves sound, it steered itself for a minute or two on I-15 before it asked us to take over, though it was doing fine.
The radar cruise control in interstate construction zones was smoother than most cars, not giving jerky automatic braking during stop and start traffic.
The adjusting starts when you look at the tachometer, on the right side with a counterclockwise needle. And if you want to speak to the GV80, you’ll have to word the commands differently than you would in most other cars.
If you’re stopped you can use a bowl-shaped wheel to tell it where to go. We got used to that, while listening to Rainy Day and Open Air Café,
It climbed the basic steep dirt with a fight, but not the killer Jeep-only hill. It would rather play Fireplace sounds for you in your luxury heated and cooled seats.
There’s nothing wrong with an SUV that plays Snowy Village sounds while powering up a hot dusty hill and making you speak to it a certain way, you just need to make sure it’s something you could get used to.
