Designed during the Parker company's 51st year of operation in 1939 (the style didn't officially debut until 1941) the pen's sleek look was inspired by aviation, hence the elegant streamlined aesthetic. Its popularity in the years that followed led it to be called "the world's most wanted pen," garnering attention from the public and luminaries alike. (Dwight D. Eisenhower even used the model when he signed in acknowledgement of the German surrender in WWII.) In fact, the brand became so renowned that in 1962, the Queen granted Parker a royal warrant, welcoming them as "the official supplier of writing instruments to the Royal Household." Prince Charles later went on to award them his own royal warrant in 1990.
Of course, the Queen isn't an exclusive 51-user; she's been seen writing with several other Parker models, as well as the occasional Montblanc and Conway Stewart. Nonetheless, Parker has clearly won her affection and remains the brand she's most often captured writing with.
