Fan Gets Wordle-Themed Cake for Their Birthday - GameRant

Wordle has taken the world by storm since it was released in October last year by Josh Wardle. The word puzzle game has become a favorite among those who enjoy casual mobile games, but it’s also inspired some creative fan-made projects. This week, one Wordle fan received a Wordle-inspired cake for their birthday, modeled after the Wordle interface.

Wordles rise to popularity has been dizzyingly quick. The game charmed players with its simple premise: solve a 5-letter word each day. Because the word is the same for all players, the game quickly went viral after players began seeking out answers and sharing their Wordle scores on Twitter. Since then, Wordle was acquired by The New York Times for an undisclosed sum. Meanwhile, a spate of Wordle clones have found their way onto the market, each seeking to re-imagine the game.

Since Wordle's success, players have used the game as inspiration for a variety of quirky and fun projects. One fan of the game was gifted a Wordle cake this week, cut into a square shape to mimic the game board. The grid and letters were created out of fondant, with the 5th guess reading the recipient’s name “KATEH” (Kate H). The cake was baked by Reddit user princesshashtag, who posted a photo of it to the /r/Wordle community. Reddit users praised the cake, describing it as “clever” and “thoughtful.”

Princesshashtag explained that they baked the cake for their roommate (who is a Wordle fan) in an effort to learn cake decorating, but also as a birthday gift. Princesshashtag isn't the only one looking to express Wordle in cake form; a loving mother recently baked their son a Wordle cake to celebrate his birthday. It's a testament to the ongoing popularity of the game.

Baking a game-themed cake is a popular way to show appreciation to gamer friends and family. In December, a Destiny 2 fan shared a Gambit-inspired snake cake they were gifted by their girlfriend. That same month, a Half-Life fan received a horrifying, realistic headcrab cake, prompting one Reddit user to ask if they safely smashed it with a crowbar. These are just a couple of examples of the incredible gaming cakes people bake. Of course, cake is best served on a plate with friends, and not with a crowbar. With their thoughtful Wordle cake, it sounds like princesshashtag is a good friend indeed.

Wordle is available now for browsers.
