Birthday cakes are some of the most memorable parts of every year's celebration. While that tradition never has to be shunned, entering adulthood does give some new dessert options on your birthday. For those of us out there who want the option to have birthday cake in cocktail form, there's fun options to be considered!
Happy Happy Birthday Shake
At Slater’s 50/50, the burger-and-bacon centric concept with locations in California, Texas, Nevada, and Hawaii offers a grown-up milkshake perfect for any birthday celebration. The Happy Happy Birthday Shake starts with a Funfetti shake, and an added shot of the customer's choice (vodka or whiskey are recommended), vanilla and Jolly Rancher crust, topped with sprinkles, Twinkies and a cupcake, and is finished with sparklers. Have fun blowing out those candles!
Cereal Milk White Russian
This cocktail from Trademark Taste + Grind in New York, created by Will Benedetto, Director of Bars at In Good Company Hospitality, is made of Coco Puff infused almond milk, Manhattan Moonshine, and Mr. Black. "During our first attempts at making cereal milk at scale we let a cup of coco puffs sit in a quart of almond milk over night only to find golf ball sized Coco puffs the next day. Now we use a tablespoon of ground coco puffs per quart of almond milk and just give it a good shake to infuse it. This is a fun cocktail laced with childhood nostalgia, making it the perfect birthday cocktail. The garnish with Coco Puffs is OTT and celebratory, it’s even better than a cake!” says Benedetto.
Violet Beauregarde
Served at A&O Kitchen + Bar in Newport Beach, California, this cocktail contains vodka, Licor 43, a house made blueberry pie cordial, lemon and an egg white. The garnish includes pink and purple sprinkles. “This was originally intended to be a birthday cocktail for one of our regular customers at A&O. After a debate about which is better: pie or cake, I developed this cocktail to essentially cover both bases. Licor 43 has an unmistakable vanilla quality to it that when combined with an egg white and a cordial really comes across as the classic birthday cake flavor profile," says Ben Carpenter, the beverage director at Balboa Bay Resort and also the brains behind the A&O Kitchen + Bar’s inventive cocktail program.
Birthday Brujaja
Holy Roller, Austin’s downtown all-day diner helmed by chef Callie Speer, has recently rolled out “floozies” or boozy milkshakes. The idea was created to celebrate the restaurant’s first birthday, but they continue to be available and the birthday themed boozy shake can be made for any guest on his/her birthday. The Birthday Brujaja is made of Nine Banded bourbon, Coke, birthday cake soft serve, topped with whipped cream and a mini choco taco (weeeee!) This one is so fun, you just may want to celebrate your birthday monthly.
