Scene… Forever Sweet Bakery in Norwalk is going viral. Owner Sky Mercede received a phone call last week from Morphe Cosmetics in California asked the renowned local bakery to create a “Congratulations Cake” for TikTok stars Charli and Dixie D’Amelio. Charli took a photo with Sky and the cake, while Dixie was taking part in her graduation livestream.
Out there… Project Music, an after-school music program designed to create social change and nurture youth in Stamford, will hold a virtual fundraising event called “Playing For Our Future.” It takes place online from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11. The evening will honor its founding board members Joyce DiCamillo, Christel Truglia and Mort Lowenthal and feature a silent auction, raffles and drawings. There will also be performances by the local rock group Hit The Deck, the Project Music House Band an students as well as a special performance by founder and jazz pianist Joyce DiCamillo and other special guests. Proceeds will benefit Project Music programming to support the Sistema Academy, Prelude Program and Digital Learning Projects as well as the Project Music COVID-19 Emergency Fund to help our families struggling with the affects of the pandemic. Scene… Actor Richard Gere was seen checking his property at the Bedford Post Inn on the Post Road in nearby Pound Ridge, N.Y., on Thursday after Hurricane Isaias ripped through the area and left tens of thousands of New York and Connecticut residents without power. The 70-year-old award-winning actor opened the inn and restaurant in 2007 with partner Russell Hernandez. Gere lives down the road from the historic property with his wife of two years, Spanish publicist Alejandra Silva, who gave birth to their second boy in May. Gere also has a 20-year-old son with his former wife, actress Carey Lowell.
Out there… The Breast Cancer Alliance will host its virtual Breast Cancer symposium, called “Hot Topics in Breast Cancer,” from noon to 1:15 p.m. Sept. 15. The world-class medical symposium will be hosted by PBS anchor and managing editor Judy Woodruff and feature a panelists of experts in the field of breast cancer treatment. They will examine the challenges presented by COVID-19, advances in treatment, diet, stress and lifestyle management. Proceeds will support Breast Cancer Alliance and the Betty Lou Ourisman Breast Health Center at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
