A recent ranking of auto insurance rates based on brand found Mitsubishi are among the most expensive cars to insure based on percentage of MSRP, according to The Zebra. The Acura brand is the least expensive to get coverage for based on percentage of suggested retail price.

The review also found America’s best-selling vehicle, the Ford F-Series, has an average insurance rate of $1,547. Among the 10 best-selling vehicles in the country, Ram Pickups (#3) had the most expensive average rate at $1,851.

The span between the most affordable car model to insure, the Fiat 500X, is only about $100 less than the average paid by drivers of Subaru’s Crosstrek, the “most expensive” of affordable cars to insure, according to The Zebra. For comparison, the difference between the most expensive car to insure, Maserati Quattroporte, is around $1,500 more to insure, on average, than a BMW 7 Series, which ranked the 10th  most expensive vehicle to insure.

Important to note that these rates are based on 2020 results. Costs to insure these cars in 2021 could potentially be lower, as auto insurance rates have fallen for the first time in a decade. The drop was due in part to fewer miles driven and reductions in claims filed. However, The Zebra expects rates to go back up as consumers return to pre-pandemic driving behaviors.

The above slideshow ranks the least expensive car models to insure in the U.S. The Zebra developed the list by analyzing more than 83 million rates to explore pricing trends across all United States ZIP codes and Washington, D.C.
