A three-and-a-half-acre Florida property between the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota Bay was listed last week for $19.9 million.
That makes the five-bedroom, seven-bathroom residence the most expensive in Sarasota, according to the Multiple Listing Service. Located on the barrier island of Casey Key, it boasts 120 feet of frontage on the gulf and more than 1,000 of frontage on the bay side, according to the listing. The house could set a price record for Sarasota if it sells for close to its asking price; the current record holder sold last year for $16.5 million.
“It's this amazingly curated property where everything is aligned,” said listing agent Joel Schemmel of Premier Sotheby’s International Realty. “It starts with this amazing piece of land. The owners worked with an architect that's very well known for almost a year to develop a house that maximizes that gulf-to-bay concept so that no matter where you are, you're either looking at the gulf or you're looking at the bay.”
Completed in 2018, the villa was designed for the current owners by Naples-based Stofft Cooney Architects and built by Sarasota local Michael K. Walker. It has more than 9,600 square feet of indoor and outdoor living space, with 12-foot ceilings throughout.
The owners, who were not available for comment, chose all the materials for the home, including the marble, stone, hardwood flooring and custom millwork, Mr. Schemmel said. The underlying property last traded in 2014 for $2.94 million, according to public records.
Highlights of the extensive estate include an open layout with retractable glass doors, a gourmet kitchen, dual offices and the primary bedroom suite, which is an entire wing with its a family room, private terrace and walk-in closets with dressing areas. The second-floor boasts four bedrooms, a lounge and two terraces with water views.
Outside, there’s an Olympic-size saltwater pool, a spa, a fire pit and a bocce ball court among the landscaped gardens, plus several terraces and loggias. Other features include a 10-car drive-through garage and a fully integrated Lutron smart-home lighting, security and fire detection system.
Because of its location, guests and residents can take in the sunrise on the bay side or the sunset on the Gulf of Mexico, Mr. Schemmel noted. A canopied nature preserve leads to two private beaches on the bay side, which has a dock with two boat lifts.
There’s also a guest house with more than 1,000 square feet of covered outdoor entertainment areas, according to the agent.
“We call it ‘the party pavilion,’” Mr. Schemmel said. “You can hang out there or entertain or host events. It's out on the peninsula...so you have beautiful views looking up the bay, which is very unique for the barrier islands.”
