CLEVELAND, Ohio -- In 2016 manager Terry Francona changed the way teams use their pitching staffs, especially their bullpens, in the postseason. Francona had no choice because the Indians’ starting rotation had been reduced to Corey Kluber, Josh Tomlin and one miraculous start by rookie Ryan Merritt due to injuries.
The strategy carried the Indians to Game 7 of the World Series before they lost to the Cubs in 10 innings.
