'World's most expensive' Advent calendar is custom-made for $10M - New York Post

Christmas has certainly come early for this family.

The world’s most expensive Advent calendar — featuring designer watches, diamonds and artworks — has been custom-made for an anonymous Swiss clan for a cost of $10,368,423 (£7.8 million).

Self-proclaimed “Queen of Christmas” Debbie Wingham, 39, created the calendar for the family’s patriarch, who was on the hunt for the ultimate Yuletide gift for his family

Wingham, a designer, managed to make a calendar that merged individual gifts for each family member with their joint travel plans for the upcoming year.

“My client told me, ‘We have a country to visit each month next year and I need a way to represent these countries,'” Wingham told South West News Service.

“It came to me all at once. I needed to create an Advent calendar, replicating the 12 days of Christmas, corresponding to the exciting travel schedule.”

The family is set to visit Paris, Dubai, New York and Disneyland, among other locations, with Wingham devising a plush gift to represent each one of those places.

Items inside the calendar include a Paris Chanel purse embellished in diamonds, which is valued at $23,216, as well as a gold Arabian lamp with diamond and emerald details. The lamp — which is supposed to signify the family’s forthcoming trip to Dubai — cost a whopping $87,559.

Meanwhile, Wingham also sourced a Disney ornament adorned with white diamonds for one of the Advent calendar’s windows, intended to represent their planned vacation to “the Happiest Place on Earth.”

The structure is made from reclaimed ebony and lacquered in black diamond paint to give it a reflective finish.

Reclaimed items from Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Goyard and Chanel have been used to decorate the inside of each window.

Wingham additionally hand-painted artworks for the back of each window to match the family’s 12 upcoming travel destinations. She says it took almost three weeks to paint each one.

The family is said to be thrilled with the finished product and will follow the traditional format of an Advent calendar, opening one window per day for the next 11 days.

The calendar isn’t the first lavish Christmas item that Wingham has created.

The designer made headlines back in 2019 after designing “the world’s most expensive Christmas tree,” worth a whopping $15 million.

Meanwhile, those who can’t afford to splash out eight figures on an Advent calendar don’t need to fear.

The Post has compiled a list of the 38 best Advent calendars for both adults and kids as the festive season fast approaches.
