Riverdale residents are mourning the death of the owner and co-founder of famed Bronx bakery Lloyd's Carrot Cake.
A family member tells News 12 that Betty Campbell-Adams was found in her car on Fordham Road during a cake delivery Friday. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Campbell-Adams and her husband started the business in the 1980s and took over as sole owner following her husband's death 15 years ago.
Campbell-Adams used to say that Lloyd's Carrot Cake isn't just across from Van Cortlandt Park, it's a part of Van Cortlandt Park.
Local residents, including Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., have been expressing their condolences and some left candles in front of the store.
They say she was a constant presence at the store and in the community.
"She was so happy to give and be a part of just making everything better here," says President of the Van Cortlandt Track Club Mandi Susman. "Not just because she was across the street from Van Cortlandt Park, but because that's who she was."
The family tells News 12 that they are waiting to find out what exactly happened to Campbell-Adams and that she seemed to be doing fine.
Lloyd's Carrot Cake is still open Saturday because they say Campbell-Adams never took a day off.
