Friends. Sex and the City. Schitt’s Creek. Cinderella. Shrek. What do all of these movies and TV shows have in common? They all feature a big, memorable wedding, of course!
Not all weddings are created equal, though. Some of those projects featured weddings that were on a tight budget . While other weddings were expensive—like, really expensive.
But which ones were the most expensive? For a while, there was no real way to ever know—that is until Raisin stepped in. Raisin, a technology-led financial services company based in the United Kingdom, decided to look at 20 of the most significant weddings in movie and television history to see just how big (and small) their budgets were.
Of the twenty weddings analyzed, the wedding of Colin and Araminta in Crazy Rich Asians took the cake, with their Singaporean nuptials coming in at a mind-boggling $8.86 million. Raisin came to that figure after estimating costs of the venue, dress, entertainment, flowers, and transport.
Carrie and Big's aborted ceremony from the Sex and the City movie also landed in the top-tier bracket, costing an estimated $157,426.
On the other end of the spectrum, Shrek and Fiona's wedding at the end of the first Shrek movie is estimated to have cost them around $13,634. By getting married in Shrek's swamp, they saved on venue costs, with the majority being spent on Fiona's dress, decorations, and Donkey's wild after-party.
The cheapest wedding on Raisin’s list was that of Homer and Marge from The Simpsons. The third-season episode “I Married Marge” detailed their budget Vegas wedding, cutting out huge costs and only costing an estimated $270.
