- A passenger spent four days without his luggage after his flight was delayed.
- The airline told him they couldn't find it, so he used the Find My app to track it down.
- He found his bag in a different terminal to the one he was flying from.
Technology is helping more travelers to track down their luggage if it goes missing during this summer's airline chaos.
One American Airlines passenger managed to find his lost suitcase at an airport using his iPad and Apple's Find My app.
Nathan, who chose to only use his first name, told Insider he spent days without his clothes and personal items after the airline said it would be put on his connecting flight four days later.
He was supposed to fly from Utah to Dallas-Fort Worth airport in Texas before take a connecting flight to Marion County, Indiana, on June 17. However, he had to wait four days to get to Indiana after a delay meant he missed the first flight.
Nathan was told he could not get his baggage because it would be put on the connecting flight. He then had to pay for a hotel for three nights along with meals, clothing and transportation.
The passenger's ordeal comes amid a summer of travel chaos, with many airlines losing luggage as well as delaying and canceling flights.
Not only did Nathan have to spend the weekend without his clothes, he missed the charity golf tournament he was traveling to Indiana for.
"All I had with me was my golf shoes and a polo shirt to go golfing in – not even a toothbrush," he said.
The passenger used the Find My app to locate his baggage four days later and walked the American Airlines representative to where his bag was being stored in a different terminal at Dallas-Fort Worth.
"They had no idea where my baggage was, and the only way we found my bag was because I had my iPad in my checked bag," he said.
He spent around 45 minutes transiting through the airport and security to another terminal to collect his baggage.
"I told the staff member that if my bag matches the name on my ID then I'm just going to take it," he said. "It's a good thing I got there early because I had to spend another 45 minutes going back to the right terminal and checking in my bag."
American Airlines did not respond to Insider's request for comment.
