WARSAW – Some of the chairs that were used for years at the Center Lake Pavilion have found a new home at the Oakwood Cemetery Chapel.
Sexton Hal Heagy told the Oakwood Board of Regents Thursday the city had been planning an auction with the county. Heagy was asked if the cemetery had anything it wanted to put into the auction, which it did.
Heagy said he took the items the cemetery was going to put into the auction over to the Warsaw Police Department.
Heagy saw about 400 chairs that were going to be put into the auction. The city of Warsaw is remodeling the Center Lake Pavillion and decided to put all their chairs into the auction.
He said he was previously thinking of putting new chairs in the chapel. After getting permission to take the chairs from Parks and Recreation Department Superintendent Larry Plummer and Maintenance Director Shaun Gardner, Heagy said he took 120 chairs at a value of $7,000 and put them in the cemetery chapel. Heagy said it saved the cemetery some money and the chapel looks more like a chapel now.
In other business, Heagy updated the Board on the water leaks at the cemetery.
About 80% of the cemetery has been without water for most of the summer. Heagy said he hasn’t received a lot of complaints over it as most people understand the situation.
Heagy said the cemetery is proceeding to blow out water lines, which they would be doing this time of the year to prepare for the cold weather.
When the Parks Department is done with its air compressor, the department will let the cemetery use its air compressor to blow out the water lines at the cemetery.
Heagy said he is not sure when the water lines with leaks will be fixed. It could be next year.
Also, Heagy told the Board:
• A new flag pole has been put in at the Civil War Circle.
• The cemetery is preparing its equipment for leaf season and winter.
