Baker spills a VERY simple secret recipe as her one piece of advice to home chefs: 'This will change your life'
- A Brisbane baker has shared her recipe for 'perfect' buttercream frosting
- The professional said the secret to baking is quality ingredients and technique
A baker has revealed the secret to a perfect batch of buttercream icing - and admitted that learning the recipe 'changed her life' forever.
Brooke Saward is a self-taught cook and recipe developer who runs the successful bakery and cake shop 'Brooki Bakehouse' in Brisbane.
She admitted that having a great recipe was the first step, and that the true triumph comes from the quality of ingredients and technique you use.
'If you love baking and want to learn how to make cakes better this recipe will change your life,' Brooke said in a video guide for buttercream frosting.
'It’s the easiest recipe and we use it every day in the bakery.'
Buttercream frosting can be used to ice cakes and cupcakes, and can also be used to decorate the baked goods with a piping bag and some food colouring.
'Here’s a secret that all bakers know: the recipe is just the beginning, the quality of ingredients and technique that you use is what will make or break your recipe.'
All professional and amateur bakers alike have found that using high quality ingredients yield better end results.
Brooke's buttercream recipe only calls for three ingredients - unsalted butter, icing sugar, and vanilla essence for flavour.
Her rule of thumb is to add in 4 cups of icing sugar per 1000g of butter.
The baker begins by placing room temperature butter into her KitchenAid and begins mixing in order to cream the butter.
She makes sure to wipe down the side of the bowl with a spatula at least three times during the process to make sure all of the butter is beaten evenly.
Brooke begins to sift the icing sugar in when the butter is light, fluffy, and a few shades lighter than when she started the process.
'I always sift it so that there’s no clumps,' she said. 'And add the icing sugar in slowly so that it doesn’t fly out.'
She then adds in a few teaspoons of vanilla extract and continues to beat the ingredients until they are perfectly combined.
'You have this beautiful smooth buttercream which takes colour really well at the end,' she said proudly.
Thousands thanked Brooke for showing fans her professional process and providing advice.
'This is so beautiful, I could watch your videos all day,' one woman said.
'I love how open you are about sharing your recipes - thank you!'
