Baker Claire Ptak, whose Violet Cakes London bakery crafted the royal wedding cake, shared the first photo of the regal confection on May 19 — not to mention several process photos leading up to the big day.
And now, she's sharing more details that give a closer look at the cake itself, as well as a glimpse into its history as well as the baker's own feelings on the once-in-a-lifetime project.
In an Instagram post showing another angle of the cake table, she wrote, "A close-up detail of one tier of the cake. This tall tier was my favourite of the three because it was so simple."
She also added more context about the golden stands on which the tiers stood elegantly: "It was such an incredible honour to be able to display them on these gilt stands from the Royal family’s collection. The stylist side of me was thrilled to be able to work with such fine craftsmanship that has been so cared for over all these years. And while we always decorate with fresh flowers we always remove them before serving. They are purely for decoration."
She captioned an additional shot: "One last angle of the cake for you. While the back is simpler, it still has a few flowers and some foliage. My heart is still full today from all of the incredible loving energy in the air for the couple yesterday. Feeling so uplifted."
We learned back in March that Meghan Markle had chosen Claire Ptak, who Markle previously interviewed for her former blog, The Tig, to bake the cake for her wedding to Prince Harry. And at that time, Kensington Palace released a statement announcing the cake's flavor would be lemon elderflower.
In its March release about the cake, Kensington Palace said: “Prince Harry and Ms. Markle have asked Ms. Ptak to create a lemon elderflower cake to incorporate the bright flavours of spring. It will be covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers. They are very much looking forward to sharing this cake with their wedding guests on May 19th."
