Serial killer Rose West has won first price in a prison bake-off competition.

West, 64, who was convicted of ten murders in 1995, came out top when inmates at HMP Prison Low Newton voted for her Victoria sponge cake.

The 64-year-old is said to love baking and often impresses her fellow ‘housemates’ with her skills.

According to a source, West uses her cooking skills to ‘win people over’.

They told Daily Star: ‘West uses her cooking skills to win people over.

‘There are some very violent women on the wing and a lot of them are very aggressive towards West because of her crimes.

‘But she tends to defuse situations by offering other prisoners cakes and biscuits.’

West and her husband Fred raped and murdered their daughter Heather, then buried her under their patio.

They then did the same to nine other people.

Fred took his own life in 1995 while waiting for his trial for 12 murders.

West was convicted of 10 murders in the same year and was jailed for life.

Despite her crimes, West is allowed to used knives while under staff supervision at Low Newton jail in Durham.

Another source said that though West is a ‘model prisoner’, she has struggled to accept her fate.

They said: ‘She has been attacked in the past and irrespective of her crimes we have a duty of care to protect her.’
