NY Cake debuts a much larger flagship location in the Flatiron
Baking academy and supply store NY Cake opens a flagship store today at 118 W. 22nd St. featuring its first-ever on-site cafe and plenty of retail and baking space. The six-seat cafe, overseen by cake decorating expert Lisa Mansour, will offer macarons, cream puffs, and cakes made at the premise daily, as well as a seasonal menu. The academy portion can fit 22 to 30 students per class, and prices range from $40 to $595 for a three-day workshop. The new 5,700-square-foot store is nearly double the size of NY Cake’s previous location less than a block away, which closed earlier this year.
Brooklyn Brewery to star in “Brewmaster” documentary
Brooklyn Brewery brewmaster Garrett Oliver will star in a documentary that highlights top brewers in NYC and beyond to show how the craft beer industry has evolved in the U.S., amNew York reports. The number of U.S.-based breweries more than doubled between 2012 and 2017, when over 6,000 existed, according to the Brewers Association. Dubbed “Brewmaster,” the film led by New York-based director Douglas Tirola will begin screening Friday, October 19, at West Village’s Cinema Village.
Get free meals from Resy during “Golden Check Week”
New York diners who make a reservation through the Resy platform will have 400 chances to win a free meal next week. Those dining at one of twenty participating restaurants — which were kept secret but may possibly include Misi, Legacy Records, and Fausto, according to a spokesperson — may be lucky enough to receive a Willy Wonka-like “golden check” with their bill. The winners will have their meals (up to $200) fully covered by the tech company. The promotion is happening from October 22 to 28, and Resy is posting restaurant hints on its Instagram page.

And for those who simply want to relish the baked goods, tickets can be purchased here for $25.
A new dumpling shop lands in the East Village
The Dumpling Shop, a casual spot in the East Village offering dumplings with “internationally inspired” flavors, such as Jamaican jerk chicken and buffalo chicken, is now open at 124 Second Ave. A handful of noodles and sides are also on the menu.
