There’s another royal wedding coming up later this week, and while it’s not getting the attention of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding of the year, it’s still a pretty big deal — and a treat for royal watchers. Princess Eugenie is about to marry long-time boyfriend Jack Brooksbank — and an array of details has already emerged.
The royal family announced over the weekend that Eugenie and Jack will have a "traditional red velvet and chocolate cake for their special day," which "will include a modern feel, incorporating the rich colors of autumn in its design and be covered with detailed sugar work including ivy."
On the face of it, Eugenie's cake as described sounds very different from harry and Meghan’s lemon elderflower variety at their own wedding earlier this year — but it's actually not. Harry and Meghan chose a very spring-themed cake for their mid-May wedding, and Eugenie and Jack are going with a very fall-themed cake for their October nuptials. So there's a lovely, seasonal common thread underlying both choices.
While red velvet cake has a rich history in America, it's often been seen as an indulgent comfort food and is absolutely a modern, original option for a British royal. However, Princess Eugenie has always been a very different, modern royal indeed: She even has her own Instagram account!
The Express reports more information on that cake that will be created by London-based cake designer Sophie Cabot. "I am incredibly excited to be given this wonderful opportunity to create such a special and unique cake. It has been lovely working with Princess Eugenie and Jack and I really hope they enjoy the cake on the day,” the former costume designer turned cake designer was quoted.
The next royal wedding will take place this Friday, October 12 at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle — the same spot as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding last spring.
