Lucy Rubio finally got her cake and yes it was delicious.
Nueces County commissioners celebrated Rubio's new role as justice of the peace on Wednesday at the courthouse. After she was officially sworn in the former Corpus Christi City Councilwoman was treated to a congratulatory cake.
It bore a striking resemblance to the one her former council members gave her at City Hall last month with a gavel and the words "We Love Lucy."
That last cake became the subject of controversy after then District 3 candidate Eric Tunchez was caught on surveillance video taking a slice of cake and smearing Rubio's name in the icing. He later told the Caller-Times he didn't regret it and added "it was very delicious."

Then days before Election Day, Tunchez was indicted in an unrelated felony case of promoting prostitution. He took to Facebook Live saying he was unfairly targeted in a conspiracy to keep him from winning and has since turned himself in to authorities.
Tunchez came in second to last - a dead man got the least number of votes - in the District 3 race. A runoff between Eric Cantu and Roland Barrera is set for Dec. 18.
Tunchez was freed last week on $20,000 bail in the felony case. He wasn't there for the new cake unveiling.
This time, it was a friend - not Tunchez - who jokingly smeared the words "We Love Lucy" on the cake just as Rubio was walking over to cut a slice.
It elicited some laughter from attendees including from Rubio, who said last month's incident had become a joke among her circle of friends. She added she's glad to start her newly elected role.
Rubio, a Democrat, will now serve as justice of the peace for Precinct 1, Place 3. She won a primary in March and was unopposed in the Nov. 6 general election. The seat was previously held by Robert "Bobby" Balderas, who died in July.
