Viral baker creates freaky 'selfie cake' — then slices right into it - New York Post

Get a piece of her.

A Texas-based cake master has created a freakishly realistic version of herself, in confectionary form.

Natalie Sideserf revealed the masterpiece online this week from her Sideserf Cake Studio in Austin, Texas. The cake’s layers alternated with stripes of green buttercream frosting and the exterior was sculpted with modeling chocolate. The finishing touch on her dessert’s visage was edible cat-eye makeup.

In the video showing off her hyperrealistic cake, Sideserf casually slices into various sections of her own head to reveal the spongy interior. All the while, the cake’s face remains smiling as she slowly dissects it, piece by piece.

Sideserf previously went viral after videos of her true-to-life creations made the rounds on Twitter — the meme-worthy clips show knives slicing into items such as vegetables, shopping bags, hamburgers and, distressingly, a bulldog puppy’s face, only to reveal a layer cake with a cream filling inside.

“Whether [people] absolutely love them or they absolutely hate them, I love it,” she told The Post at the time. “If I was making cakes and everyone just loved them, I’d probably find that a little boring.”

In 2012, a bust cake Sideserf, 35, made of Willie Nelson blew up on Reddit, and she started her own bakery with husband Dave, 36. On their YouTube channel, which has over 90.5K followers, the couple of 12 years document their start-to-finish cake process with the now-infamous onion cake.

“The onion cake, a lot of people think I took onion skin and placed it on a cake. Which is not true, that would be gross,” says Sideserf. Through experimenting, she found the perfect substitute: vanilla wafer paper.

Most of the cakes in the viral montages were made for their channel and for experimenting, and not for custom orders — or a prank, Sideserf said.

“Some people say my cakes are the reason they have trust issues.”
