- Mercedes-Benz has released pricing for the new 2021 S-class luxury sedan.
- The new model starts at $110,850 for the S500 4Matic model, a big increase from last year's entry-level S450.
- The 2021 S-class will arrive at U.S. dealerships in the first half of 2021.
While it was previously possible to get a new Mercedes-Benz S-class for less than six figures, the new 2021 version of the full-size luxury sedan will start well above $100,000. The 2021 Mercedes S500 4Matic has a base price of $110,850, an increase of $15,650 over the 2020 model's base price, while the new V-8–powered S580 4Matic starts at $117,350, an increase of $8905 over the previous S560 4Matic.
To be fair, the new S500 isn't exactly equivalent to the previous S450 base model, as it now comes standard with all-wheel drive and provides more power from its new inline-six—429 horsepower compared with the previous V-6 engine's 362 horsepower. The S580's V-8 benefits from a more modest power increase, adding 33 hp for a new total of 496 hp. Both engines come standard with a 48-volt hybrid system.
And of course, these prices will just be the starting point for the S-class, as Mercedes-Benz will offer all manner of options that will drive the sticker much higher. So far we only know about the available AMG Line and Executive Line packages. The AMG Line is available on both the S500 (starting at $115,150) and S580 (starting at $121,650) and adds equipment such as rear-wheel steering, a body kit, a special head-up display, a Warmth & Comfort package with heated armrests, steering wheel, and rear seats. The Executive Line is offered only with the V-8 and starts at $132,500, adding a wide range of luxuries such as massaging rear seats, rear entertainment screens, and an even more sophisticated rear-wheel-steering system that can turn the rear wheels up to 10 degrees.
Mercedes has also revealed an ultra-luxury Maybach version of the S-class, and should eventually show higher-performance AMG versions of the luxury sedans. So many $200,000-plus are yet to come.
For now, the standard S500 and S580 models will arrive in the U.S. in the first half of 2021.
