Keyboards, guitars stolen from alt-rock band Cake in Portland - OregonLive

Cake, an alternative rock band that’s been going the distance since the mid-1990s, had multiple instruments stolen from a van near Portland International Airport earlier this week.

Band members reported the theft to Portland Police on Monday. Cake was staying at the Hilton Garden Inn on Northeast Airport Way.

The Sacramento-based band played in Jacksonville Aug. 22 at the Britt Festival and in Bend Aug. 24 at the Les Schwab Amphitheater.

They reported three guitars and two keyboards were stolen when the thieves broke a lock on the tour van.

The group’s tour manager, Terry Babis, told Willamette Week the financial hit was “considerable”, and the instruments were “kind of irreplaceable.”

Portland Police said they didn’t have any more information about the incident, including the type of instruments stolen. WWeek and KATU-TV reported the stolen instruments included two Yamaha keyboards, two Gibson Chet Atkins Tennessean guitars and a classic Goya guitar.

Cake is scheduled to appear at Edgefield in Troutdale on Sept. 7, alongside Ben Folds.

From there, they are set to head out on an international tour, with stops in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Italy.
