The Duchess of Sussex celebrated her 38th birthday on 4 August and while her plans were kept private, one detail from the day has been revealed.

A Stoke Newington bakery created a bespoke carrot cake for Meghan’s special day, complete with a personalised message in chocolate icing and topped with orange segments.

Luminary Bakery featured in British Vogue’s September issue, which Meghan guest edited.

The business provides training for women from disadvantaged backgrounds, who have been victims of sexual or domestic violence.

Founded by Alice Williams in 2013, the bakery’s six-month training programme teaches women how to bake and they are educated on food hygiene, time and money management and computer literacy.

Royal commentator Omid Scobie shared a photo of the bakery’s birthday cake for Meghan.

Caoimhe Bennett, a baker at Luminary, told Good Morning America: "When I applied for this job I did not expect that I'd be making a cake for Duchess Meghan Markle.

"That was pretty crazy and being in Vogue, that's amazing."

Meghan also sent the Luminary Bakery a handwritten letter and a notebook embossed with ‘Forces for Change’ - the title of the Vogue issue - when the magazine came out.

It read: “Dear Alice, When I knew I would be secretly guest editing the September issue of British Vogue, including Luminary Bakery was non-negotiable. The work you do, what you represent to the community, the spirit of the women there - you all embody what it means to be “forces for change”. Thank you for being a part of this special project.”
