(CNN) — Over the past few months, Americans have seen prices increasing in the grocery store.

The prices of food items eaten at home rose 1% in May, largely because meat is getting more expensive. Meat prices have been soaring as major processing plants temporarily closed their doors because workers fell ill with Covid-19.

At the same time, though, some items got cheaper last month. Here’s a quick guide to what people were paying last month.

What got more expensive

Beef and veal up 10.8%  (The ncrease for certain types of meat was even more dramatic: uncooked beef roasts soared 19.5%, and uncooked beef steak  11.6%.)

Pork chops up 8.4%.

Dried beans, peas and lentils up 4.9%.

Ice cream up 2.5%.

Fresh whole chickens up 2%.

Tomatoes up 1.9%.

Fresh cakes and cupcakes  up 1.8% .

Rice, pasta and cornmeal up 1.8%.

Breakfast cereal up 1.4%.

Sugar and sugar substitutes up 1.2%.

Potatoes up 1.1%.

Frozen vegetables up 1%.

Salt and other seasonings and spices up 1%.

What got cheaper

Eggs down 4.8%.

Soup down 3.3%.

Cookies down 3.1%.

Olives, pickles and relishes down 2.4%.

Bread down 1.8%.

Roasted coffee down 1.7%.

Citrus fruit down 1.2%.

Canned vegetables down 1.2%.

Breakfast sausages down 1.1%.

What didn’t really change

Fresh fish and seafood  down 0.1%.

Bacon down 0.1%.

Milk down 0.4%.

Lettuce up 0.1%.

Butter up 0.1%.
