Here’s some backstory on why I chose to write this blog. If I had to choose my favorite childhood memory of all time from the holidays, it would be spending time with my grandmother. When I was younger, she would watch me while my parents worked. It was just me and her. She was big on spending time in the kitchen. I would sit on her counter and we’d make sugar cookies. Everything was done from scratch and we’d have so much fun decorating. It’s a time I miss so much and can’t help but cry as I write this. She was the best grandmother ever and a moment in life I’ll cherish forever.
With a daughter of my own, I want to create those types of moments for her. Times and traditions she can look forward to every year. This year, we are going to start it and the first place I thought of going to check out was Cake Stuff to get me situated.
Cake Stuff is located at Westlink Shopping Center at the southwest corner of Central and Tyler. They’re a family-owned business specializing in cake and cookie decorating and candy making supplies. It’s a DIY house for food crafting. And if you’re lost on what to do, they also provide cake decorating, cookie decorating, and candy making classes as well as private parties.
I dropped in just to get an idea and some suggestions from the staff from what to get and general tips. The lady who helped me the whole time, come to find out, was the owner of the place. I had no idea until I checked out their website the next day. She walked me through the basic steps of the frostings to use, items I’d need to purchase, sprinkles, everything. It was truly insightful and gave me some joy that I’d have no problem carrying on the tradition my grandmother shared with me 35+ years ago.
Cake Stuff literally has it all when it comes to anything baking.
For instance, only in Wichita will you find the largest selection of cookie cutters in the country. And who says there’s nothing cool in Wichita?!?!?!
There was also an endless selection of sprinkles, confetti, pearls, sugar crystals and whatever else people wanted to use.
If there was something you needed when it came to food crafting, I’m pretty sure Cake Stuff had it…. and more.
As mentioned earlier, they also offer classes for kids, families, as well as adults only classes where you could bring in your own drink. They have a classroom in the back set up which would make for a fun private party.
Here’s a Cookie Classes example sheet.
Check them out. They are there to help and answer any questions you have. I loved the patience they had with me and my endless number of questions.
Cake Stuff is located at 8909 W. Central inside Westlink Shopping Center. For more information, check them out on Facebook or visit their website. You can also reach them at 316-773-0510.
