Watch: YouTuber Shows The Expensive And Potentially Disastrous Side Of Owning A Bugatti - HotCars

Bugatti is the crown jewel of all performance vehicles. As a brand, it has pioneered the way to insanely fast cars. The French automaker knows how to make a collectible classic right off the factory floor – where it is hand built, of course.

Not only is Bugatti renowned for its copious amounts of power that it puts into its cars, but also an eye-watering price tag. A new limited-production Bugatti Chiron costs about $2.9 million which is also the cheapest model that Bugatti currently owns.

Owning the cream of the crop in the automotive industry also means that you won’t be taking it to your local generic service center any time soon.

Hidden Costs And Dangers Of A Bugatti

A YouTuber based out of Utah that goes by the Stradman knows this all too well. He is a car enthusiast and has an impressive collection of cars with one of them being a 2008 Bugatti Veyron. The vlogs he creates shows viewers what it is like to own these kinds of high-performance vehicles and the fun they are to drive.

A recent vlog he posted highlights an event he took his Veyron to where he and a Chiron owner did a drag race on an airstrip. Drag races with two 1,000 plus horsepower vehicles means extremely high speeds in a short amount of time. Both vehicles maxed out at around 200 mph.

After the drag race, the Veyron has a low tire pressure light on and it turns out one of tires was at an extremely low 18 psi – all while going triple digit speeds. Thankfully nobody was hurt and there was no blowout during the race. This is somewhat of a miracle considering that Bugatti takes added measures to ensure that non-compromised tires don’t melt at high speeds under all the friction and pressure.

Disaster was avoided gratefully. But there is still the cost of repairing the tire. Specialized and limited service is required to do practically anything on these vehicles. The service or repairs on these vehicles can easily cost the price a new mainstream vehicle. Tires are specially made for a Bugatti and can cost around $42,000 for a new set.

Bugatti may be the poster child of all high-performance vehicles but can provide a major financial headache. The quad turbo W16 engine is also a lot of power to harness in one vehicle. Everything has to be in perfect working order for you to get peak performance out of one of these vehicles. Pushing it to high limits in not ideal circumstances can be a serious issue.

Maybe this is why Bugattis collect more dust in a collector’s private showroom than they collect miles on the road. But we can appreciate that the Stradman uses his supercars on a daily basis. Hopefully next time there’s a drag race, all the tires are pumped up and in top condition. Check out the video to see what the dark side of owning a Bugatti looks like. Just remember avoiding triple digit speeds is the best policy.
