Michael Jordan's most expensive purchases - Basketball Network

For a billionaire like Michael Jordan, it’s always interesting to hear how he spends his money. Does he splurge on luxurious things like some hip-hop stars, or does he reinvest his money like Warren Buffett? The answer is both. Here are some of the most expensive purchases Jordan made.

Charlotte Hornets – $175 million

Jordan bought the team in 2010 for $175 million. Now, the value of the franchise ballooned to $1.5 billion in 2021. It will only get better for the Hornets as they finally have the pieces to compete for the playoffs. Back then, when Charlotte was still in rebuilding mode after losing seasons after seasons, it made MJ a joke among his peers. Some even say the Hornets’ fumbling their draft picks and continued losses hurt his legacy. But Michael stuck around. He sold a minority stake in 2019 but reportedly has no plans of relinquishing his control of the team.

Luxury yacht – $80 million

What’s a billionaire without a superyacht? The Chicago Bulls legend an $80 million yacht in 2019. Named “Joy,” it features a basketball court and is large enough to hold parties. Right now, the luxury yacht is docked at St. Barths.

Customized Gulfstream G550 jet – $61.5 million

Jordan’s business ventures require him to travel around the world, and the 6-time champion chose to travel in style because he can. MJ purchased a private jet and decided to customize it with signature powder blue and white colors to honor his alma mater, the University of North Carolina. The jet was also decorated with the Jordan logo and call sign N236MJ, representing his initials, jersey number, and titles he won.

Highland Park Mansion – $21 million

The mansion, which sits in 32,000 square feet of land, is famous for its entrance gate, which features 23, MJ’s number when he was with the Bulls. Typical of a basketball legend, the property has a basketball court, swimming pool, tennis court, golfing area, water pond, nine bedrooms, and close to 20 full bathrooms and half bathrooms. Jordan also paid $10,000 to have more trees planted around the property.

Aside from the Highland Park Mansion, Mike has a $2.8 million home in North Carolina, a penthouse in Charlotte, a Miami estate worth $281,000, and a home in Florida that carries a price tag of $20 million.

Mercedes-McLaren SLR 722 Edition – $3 million

The GOAT likes fast cars, and he amassed an impressive fleet. One of the most expensive cars he bought is the Mercedes-McLaren SLR 722 Edition for a cool $3 million. Aside from the McLaren, MJ also owns or used to own a $2 million Bugatti Veyron Sang Noir, a $331,000 Ferrari 512 Maranello, Ferrari Pista, Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, Ferrari 512TR, Aston Martin DB9 Volante, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Mercedes-Benz S-600 and a lot more luxury cars.

Michael Jordan bought a lot of crazy-expensive things in his life, but he deserved it. The most important thing he did was to invest in himself. The titles he won catapulted him into NBA greatness which he used as leverage to build his brand and empire.

There will never be another MJ in basketball – the man who is a proven winner on and off the court.
