It’s Fortnite’s first birthday today, and naturally, Epic is celebrating what has been a truly phenomenal year for the game, which skyrocketed in popularity thanks to the addition of a battle royale mode which changed not only the game itself, but the entire landscape of the industry.
To celebrate the event, Epic has put a few specific birthday-themed challenges into the game for unique rewards. The most elaborate of them all is asking players to dance in front of ten different birthday cakes which have now been added to the map in a recent patch. Doing so will get you a spray, and doing this challenge plus the other two (playing matchings and doing damage to opponents) will get you some birthday back bling you won’t be able to find anywhere else. This will likely be paired with a birthday skin in the store soon enough.
So, where do you dance in front of birthday cakes on the Fortnite map? And ten birthday cakes, which is no small feat? Here’s a map with ten locations of cakes, though there may be more in the wild to find, which I’ll add as they crop up.

So far we have:
- A cake east of Pleasant Park
- A cake just south of Lazy Links near the road
- A cake south of Risky Reels
- A cake in the north part of Flush Factory
- A cake at the south of loot lake
- A cake near Lonely Lodge
- A cake in the middle of Fatal Fields
- A cake in the north part of Paradise Palms
- A cake in the north part of Greasy Grove
- A cake in the south east part of Retail Row
Once you get there, pick your favorite dance and you’ll be good to go for that location. Here’s what the cakes look like in person. They are big enough so you can see them from the air:

I’ve been doing these this morning, and I have noticed that at least most players are cool about you trying to get your dance on, at least for the first twenty seconds of the match or so. At Flush Factory, we had one guy trying to shoot about eight other people dancing, but we ganged up on him with pickaxes and beat him down so we could continue our party.
Ten of these cakes is quite a lot, so this one is probably going to take you a while. I wouldn’t expect to be able to do more than 2 or 3 of these in a single game of Fortnite at a time, but I suppose you could pop into some rifts and redeploy yourself to get a couple more, but doing this later in the game is going to be riskier than doing it right after you land.
Enjoy the birthday event, and good luck completing this, the only somewhat complicated challenge of the bunch. I’m not quite sure how long you have to do this (a week? the rest of the season?), but you might as well get started as soon as possible.
