King Cake Taste Test
Can you make an entire meal out of king cake and king cake-flavored items? We asked two locals and two out-of-town guests to give it their best shot.

King Cakes are beginning to appear in bakeries and groceries around Louisiana.
But is it too soon to eat them?
In an informal poll conducted recently by The Daily Advertiser, a small but overwhelming number of people agreed that King Cake should not be eaten before Three Kings' Day.
Jan. 6 is known as Three Kings' Day in some places for the wise men, or Magi, who, the Bible says, visited baby Jesus and proclaimed him the Son of God.
In The Advertiser's poll, the second-largest group of voters was those who did not have a stance on whether King Cake should be eaten during a certain time of the year.
But there were still a few diehard King Cake fans who started munching early.
"Belly over mind," one voter said.
"With Mardi Gras 'postponed' this year, I decided that I was going to eat my king cake when I felt like it," another said.
With that mindset, you can have your cake whenever and eat it too.

But with only a day left until the beginning of 2021 Mardi Gras — lasting between Jan. 6 and Feb. 16 — it's almost time to start hunting for the best King Cake in Lafayette.
