An upset Woolworths customer has expressed frustration after receiving a messy delivery from the supermarket this week.
The shopper arrived home on Thursday to a display that would undoubtedly send a shudder through the core of even the most calm cake lover.
Among her groceries, delivered from the Katoomba Woolworths in the NSW Blue Mountains, was a fresh caramel mud cake that had been dumped upside down on her concrete verandah.
Not only that, another bag had been packed so full with heavy items that the straps had snapped, presenting additional difficulty with transporting them inside the home.
“Do you think it’s normal to deliver cakes upside down in the bag and leave over-packed bags with broken handles for people?” she wrote to Twitter after the incident.
The cake fortunately had not been purchased for a special occasion and was able to be salvaged.
“It was OK except for a lot of the icing came off the top onto the lid,” the shopper told Yahoo News Australia.
Woolworths cake packed upside down ‘on purpose’
She was however, confident that whoever packed her order, must have deliberately placed the cake upside down.
“The way it fit in the bag, the size of it, I’m pretty sure it would have had to have been put in upside down, it couldn’t have turned itself over in the bag,” she said.
After complaining to Woolworths, an employee requested further information so they could follow up with the store.
The customer complied with the request but said she had yet to be communicated with further.
“Nothing was damaged to the point of not being able to be used, so I don’t really care that much, I just thought it was funny they’d specifically packed a cake upside down,” she said.
The shopper said it was far from her first unsatisfactory experience with Woolworths delivery, having once received four boxes of cat food despite not owning a cat.
“Quite often they’ll get something wrong about the order. Usually they just either substitute something bad for something I ordered,” she said.
‘They’re human’: Woolworths apologises
A Woolworths spokesperson apologised to the customer and said personal shoppers simply “don’t get it right every time”.
“We know it's frustrating when a customer's products are not delivered properly and we apologise for missing the mark on this occasion,” they told Yahoo News Australia.
“Our team of personal shoppers work hard to ensure orders are packed correctly, but they're human and don't get it right every time.
“We're eager to make this right with the customer and are getting in touch to resolve the issue.”
