A Monmouth County woman took time off from her job as a jail guard earlier this month to attend the “Stop the Steal” rally in Washington, D.C. — the same event that devolved into a violent attack on the Capitol building.

In court records posted online on Saturday, a special agent from the Federal Bureau of Investigation gave more details about the actions of Marissa Suarez and Patricia Todisco. Both women were arrested Friday on charges related to the insurrection.

At the time, Suarez was a probationary corrections officer at the Monmouth County Corrections Facility. She was scheduled to work on Jan. 6, the day of the riot, but used an “emergency holiday” to ditch her job, according to the agent. Suarez resigned from her job at the jail after being arrested.

The FBI learned of Suarez’s participation in the riot after the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, her former employer, passed along a tip from the Union Beach Police Department.

With time off secured, Suarez allegedly hopped in her silver Jeep Wrangler and drove to Washington. The agent said the FBI found records of the car crossing the Delaware Memorial Bridge heading south on I-95 just after 6 a.m. that day, and then again heading north just before 9 p.m. The FBI believes that Todisco travelled with Suarez to and from Washington.

Security footage, videos and photos from the riot placed Suarez and Todisco inside the Capitol building beginning around 3 p.m. that day, according to the agent. Text messages from Suarez’s phone also placed the women in the building.

“Sooo we’ve stormed Capitol Hill lol,” read one message sent from Suarez’s phone at 3:20 p.m. that day, according to the agent.

It’s believed they were in the building when law enforcement used tear gas against the rioters, based on messages sent from Suarez’s phone the next morning. At one point, Todisco is believed to have been in U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley’s, D-Oregon, office, based on a video posted to Twitter days after the attack.

The texts from Suarez’s phone the next day make clear why the women joined the attack on the Capitol: They were counting on former Vice President Mike Pence taking unconstitutional action to overturn the results of the election.

“When we found out pence fucked us, we all stormed the Capitol building and everyone forced entry and started breaking shit.. it was a like a scene out of a movie,” one of the texts read.
