Victory is sweet, and especially in the case when baking is involved.
According to Lancaster Online, Manheim baker Blayre Wright claimed the first-place prize on the Food Network program “Halloween Baking Championsip.”
Wright is the owner of the private wedding cake studio Flouretta Sweet, and managed to nab the win on the after nearly being eliminated in a comeback victory - which is surely just icing on the cake, as they say.
Wright’s win came in the eight episode finale of the spooky-themed baking challenge program. The remaining bakers were asked to create a sweet and savory board, with items that would represent a head and a heart, for a doomed fictional wedding in which the bride and groom were poisoned.
Wright created a savory heart-shaped pie and a fudgy brownie with raspberries, and used the brie she was given as a mandatory ingredient to make a ruby chocolate ganache.
“It would mean everything for me to win this,” Wright said during the program. “My clients at home see me as a cake maker but I know I’m so much more than that. And it’s just about proving that and making my family really proud.”
Wright received praise from the judges, but was still on the verge of elimination going into the final test. But in a twist, all three of the remaining bakers were allowed to go on to the final round. And with the theme of a gothic wedding cake, the final test played right into her skill set.
Victory came to Wright with her black, blood orange-scented, skull-topped, three-tier wedding cake. She managed to complete the gothic masterpiece in five hours, something that even a seasoned pro like her referred to as “a feat” on the show.
