Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar replacing Ida Claire in Jacksonville - The Florida Times-Union

A St. Johns Town Center restaurant has shut its doors to make way for a new "farm-fresh comfort food" concept from its Texas-based corporate owners.

Ida Claire, South of Ordinary recently shut its doors to undergo renovations as it transitions into Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar at 10209 River Coast Drive at the shopping center.

Both brands are owned by FB Society, a Dallas-based restaurant group that also is the parent of multiple restaurant concepts, including The Food Hall Co., Haywire, The Ranch, Son of a Butcher, Sixty Vines and Mexican Sugar Cocina Y Cantina.

After four years, Ida Claire South of Ordinary restaurant recently closed at 10209 River Coast Drive in St. Johns Town Center and is transitioning into its sister concept, Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar.

Whiskey Cake anticipates a late summer opening at Town Center, Jami Sharp, head of public relations and communications for FB Society, told the Times-Union in an email.

"Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar is an everyday urban tavern with wood-fired and full-flavored dishes, innovative craft cocktails, a killer library of spirits and an array of exclusive barrel picks," Sharp said.

Whiskey Cake says on its website that it sources "flavors, ingredients, and ideas straight from the farm because good food tastes even better when it’s grown locally."

The transition to Whiskey Cake comes four years after Ida Claire replaced the former Mimi's Cafe, which closed in April 2019.

A sign taped to the front door of Ida Claire South of Ordinary restaurant on March 16 thanks customers and introduces Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar, the new restaurant set to take its place at 10209 River Coast Drive in St. Johns Town Center.

When it opened in 2005, Mimi's was one of the first destination restaurants at the St. Johns Town Center, along with the Cheesecake Factory, Maggiano's Little Italy, P.F. Chang's, Ted's Montana Grill and others. Except for Ted's, all were the first — and only — locations of their chains in the Jacksonville area.
