Cake walk, bake sale to raise funds for Johnson City pet rescue - Yahoo! Voices

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A cake walk and bake sale will take place Saturday to raise funds for the Paddle Creek Pet Ranch & Rescue.

Event organizer Natasha Gray said she was inspired to host the event to help raise funds for a Border Collie mix named Buddy and to help repair the rescue from recent storm damage.

“I happened to be scrolling through social media and came across a post made by a Paddle Creek Pet Ranch & Rescue about a little dog named Buddy,” Gray said. “He kind of struck a chord with me because we are farmers and we had Border Collies and he’s a Border Collie mix. He was a case of an embedded collar and he had a pretty severe injury.”

Gray said the post stated the rescue site was significantly damaged from a storm on Jan. 12.

“I wanted to help out and give these puppies a good place to be until they’re found in their forever homes,” Gray said.

Several local places have donated cakes and baked items for the event.

“We’ve had several places donate cakes, Hippie Bakes, Big Belly Bread Company, H&G Bakery, Patty Cake,” Gray said. “Several [have] donated delicious things. Gypsy Road Eateries [donated] some baked goods. We’ve had a lot of people volunteer their time and their talents.”

Buddy, the dog that inspired the event, is doing well, Gray said.

“We’re hoping he’s off to find his forever home,” Gray said. “One of our vendors has graciously donated and made a little pet leash holder for whoever Buddy ends up with.”

The cake walk and bake sale will take place on Saturday from 5-7 p.m. at the Baileyton Antique Village (50 Bailey Road, Baileyton).

“There’s so many animals out there that need help,” Gray said. “I mean, the people that run these rescues, they really are angels among us, I mean, they do the hard work. Some of these dogs are starved and injured. That takes a lot of time and a lot of resources to take care of them. But they step up and don’t hesitate.”
