'This has been a blessing for ten years': Beloved 'Cake Bar' in Dallas' Trinity Groves is moving to a bigger location - WFAA.com

The bakery will move closer to the medical district in Dallas and open its new spot, which will double its current size, on March 21.

DALLAS — Tracy German is sad but excited. 

The owner of the 'Cake Bar' in Dallas' Trinity Groves has had her shop for 10 years but is sadly closing down the space that brought her incredible success - trading up for a bigger and better location across from the medical district, she said. 

The new chapter is something German is still getting used to because so many people know her shop and lean on it for a sweet treat after work, for special occasions, and seasonal holidays. 

"I like the reaction I get from baking something from scratch--something that reminds you of what your mother or grandmother made," German said. "It invokes a memory, and when people choose what you cook for them, I take it very personally as an honor." 

"This has been a blessing for ten years. We've stayed consistent, and the people of Dallas have made us very successful." 

Success is a bit of an understatement. When German started, she was making cakes out of her space in Trinity Groves--now she has a vast production kitchen that produces around 266 cakes per day. 

However, German sells much of those in slices, which equals around 800. 

"We probably sell 4,000 whole cakes per month, and on any Saturday or Sunday, we sell well over 3,000 slices," German said. 

German's choice to move out of Trinity Groves and to 2629 N. Stemmons Fwy (Suite 101, to be exact) is solely based on atmosphere. 

"We want to get a little bigger, a place where you can come in and sit down, have cake or ice cream, and just be part of our community. The new space will have more seating and be centrally located right off Medical District Dr.," German said. 

German's new location will roughly double the size of her current operation. German came to Texas with the ambition of always wanting to start a bakery. 

She was in banking on the northwestern coast before realizing it wasn't for her. She went to culinary school and turned some of her mom's recipes and many of her own into a booming business. 

German's favorite cake slice is Red Velvet--precisely like her mom used to make. 

"It reminds me of her. If she sold one--she'd have three other people call wanting one," German said with a laugh. 

Cake Bar's new location opens on March 21.
