Auburn celebrates 150th birthday with plenty of cake - WGME

AUBURN (WGME) – Friday was a big birthday celebration for Auburn.

The city is celebrating its 150th birthday with plenty of cake.

A ceremony kicked off today's celebration inside city hall.

Mayor Jason Levesque talked about the town's history and what makes one of Maine's biggest cities so special.

To celebrate, city officials encourage you to come out to 36 different locations and enjoy a slice of cake.

Mayor Levesque anticipates serving up to 4,000 slices.

President Donald Trump wrote a letter to the city.

"I reached out to the White House and just kind of on a whim said, ‘Listen, I didn't know if you knew what’s happening, it’s a really big deal for Auburn. Auburn is one of the biggest cities in the state.’ They got back to me about two weeks later and said the President wrote a letter," Levesque said.

Cakes were donated by Central Maine Community College and BJ's, and will be available in most locations through 7 p.m.
