Let’s see. What has happened on Feb. 12? The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was formed. That was in 1909. President Bill Clinton was acquitted by the Senate after being impeached by the House. That was in 1999. Soul On Ice, Eldridge Cleaver’s seminal book on racism, politics and crime was published. That was in 1968. Ray Manzarek, keyboardist for The Doors, and Bill Russell, the greatest defensive basketball player ever, were born, in 1939 and 1934, respectively. Guess that covers it. Oh, wait. The twelfth of February also is Abraham Lincoln’s birthday – he’d be 210 if he was still around. Like Elvis, Abe, really, never has left the building, and so there will be a party going on at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum to celebrate the birthday of America’s greatest president, not that we’re boasting or anything. Admission to ALPLM will be free on Lincoln’s birthday. It’s usually $15 for adults and $6 for kids, and if you haven’t been lately, you really should go. Sure, there’s been some controversy about hats and such, but end of day, the ALPLM is a gem. There will be all sorts of things going on. A three-dimensional printer that will create a bust of Lincoln. Arts and crafts for kids. Lincoln’s stepmother – or someone who looks a lot like her – will be there to chat, as well as Abe and Mary Todd themselves. We’re most pumped about a round table discussion featuring Lincoln historians who are scheduled to jaw from 2:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. Don’t miss it.
