Nothing says romance like chocolate, and where better to treat yourself than at Ovenbird? Chris Hasting’s live-fire restaurant offers a Seven Layer Chocolate Cake that’s more than worth saving room for after a dinner of South American- and European-inspired small plates. The cake consists of—as expected—seven layers of moist and rich chocolate cake, using chocolate from Olive & Sinclair, an artisan chocolatier based in Nashville. A light and fluffy espresso buttercream is spread between each layer, since chocolate and coffee are the perfect pairing. The cake is then finished with a layer of ganache and a sprinkling of sea salt. Don’t let the name intimidate you, though—the layers are fairly thin, and the slice is perfectly portioned, so you won’t be overwhelmed with a towering monstrosity of chocolate (although no one said that’s a bad thing).
