The used Cybertruck market shows no signs of slowing, pitting practically new Tesla pickups against the just-announced 2025 Rivian R1T/R1S electric vehicles.
Low-mileage, but pricey, used Cybertruck market explodes: As Tesla slowly boosts production of the electric pickup and more vehicles get into customers’ hands, the used market has become surprisingly robust for a car that has been shipping in limited volume only since April. (Tesla said it produced over 1,000 Cybertrucks in a single week in April when it announced first quarter earnings.) And given that many sellers have had the Cybertruck only briefly, some used CTs are almost new. Both car shopping sites Autotrader and CarGurus show over 200 used Cybertrucks available nationwide as of June. That’s a spike in inventory since last month. Prices have stayed high, starting at over $110,000 and ranging up to $180,000-plus. Used Cybertrucks command price premiums because of the long wait times for new CTs.
New Cybertruck always an option: Of course you could always order a new CT — and wait in a long line of reservation holders. The new rear-wheel drive Cybertruck starts at $60,990 on Tesla’s website, the dual-motor all-wheel drive model at $79,990, and the tri-motor Cyberbeast model is priced at $99,990 — all with 2025 availability or delivery dates.
2025 Rivian debuts, competes on price: But Rivian — seen as a Cybertruck rival because of its big size and off-road chops — now has a fresh response to the Tesla pickup: the second-generation R1T pickup announced on June 6. The refreshed R1S SUV could also be considered a competitor since it’s a big, rugged off-road vehicle like the Cybertruck. The gen 2 Rivian R1T starts at $69,900 and the 2025 R1S at $75,900, similar in price to the 2024s. But a lot has changed internally: the new 2025s have been “completely reengineered through hundreds of hardware improvements, performance upgrades, a fully redesigned software experience, and evolved in-house drive systems,” according to Rivian. Higher end Rivian trims are very pricey. The Tri-Motor R1T starts at around $100,000, for example. Gen 2 quad-motor variants will be even more expensive, likely in the $120,000 range.
